Slot Sculptures

Our 7th grade artists explored slot sculptures using cardboard and tempera paint sticks to bring their ideas to life in three dimensions. By cutting and interlocking cardboard pieces, students focused on form, transforming flat shapes into freestanding sculptures with height, width, and depth. They experimented with texture, using layering, corrugation, and surface techniques to add visual and tactile interest. Finally, they applied bold color with tempera paint sticks to enhance contrast, create mood, and unify their designs.

This project challenged students to think creatively about construction while thoughtfully incorporating the elements of art into dynamic, original works.
